Innovating solutions for the
ocean's pressing  challenges
The Fishtwin Digital Twin Platform
Fishtwin is developing a suite of orchestration tools that leverages digital twin analytics to improve the seafood supply chain efficiency and sustainability of commercial fishing operations.
Unsustainable fishing practices
With predictive models and digital twin simulations to help fisheries target abundant stocks while avoiding overfished or vulnerable species, reducing bycatch and habitat destruction.
Ecosystems and biodiversity conservation

Understanding marine ecosystem distribution and species health is essential for biodiversity conservation and protection.

Marine Pollution
Digital mapping and monitoring will help to identify critical habitats, track species populations, and detect threats such as overfishing and pollution.
Climate change
This project will improve knowledge of oceanic processes, including carbon cycles, ocean acidification, and sea-level rise, to support the development of mitigation and adaptation strategies.

"Without proactive mitigation, the impacts of climate change on the ocean could reach $428 billion annually by 2050, driven by losses in blue economy activities including fisheries, ocean carbon absorption, and damages from sea level rise and storms (IPCC, 2022b)."

"Sustainable fisheries management is a win-win-win strategy to increase fisher welfare, preserve ocean health and contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation (OECD,2025). "
OECD
2025
" The ocean is the planet's largest carbon sink, absorbing 25% of carbon dioxide emissions from human activity and capturing 90% of the excess heat generated by these emissions, but this has affected the health of the ocean (United Nations n.d.)."
United Nations
2024
43%
The Australian Government has legislated Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, to reach 43% below 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050, and ocean-based actions can enable the progress.

Defining the Path  Forward

Fishtwin's journey began with a bold question: How do we sustain the ocean's resources to effectively feed a growing population? Today, climate change and human pressures threaten the stability and resilience of marine ecosystems. To navigate these realities, we are proud to present the Fishtwin project- for sustainable and effective management of fisheries.

What is the Fishtwin project?

The Fishtwin Project aspiration is to be an industry-led collaborative research and development project to build a precision fisheries digital twin platform.

It's broad objective is to enhance the sustainable and effective management of fisheries value chains to deliver healthy stocks, reduce ecosystem impacts and strengthen climate change adaptation and build resilience.

Why the Fishtwin project?

Climate-driven changes are rapidly impacting ocean ecosystems, demanding urgent adaptation strategies to prevent severe consequences.

Project Fishtwin is focused to advance a healthy, abundant, and restored ocean future to mitigate climate change, support livelihoods, fisheries efficiency and enhance the sustainability of aquatic food systems.

The vision of providing detailed, dynamic digital representations of marine resources, habitats, and human activities, anticipates a highly accurate digital model of fisheries and marine ecosystems. For monitoring, simulating, and visualizing past, present, and future ocean conditions in ways that will be meaningful to a wide range of stakeholders.

What are the customer benefits of the Fishtwin project?

We aspire to support climate mitigation and resilience, promote a sustainable blue economy, and conserve biodiversity.

Fishtwin will model the impacts of fishing, aquaculture, and port activities, aiding in the development of strategies that balance economic gains with conservation efforts. The project benefits for commercial fisheries include:-

1. Improved Efficiency & Productivity

~Optimized fishing operations : The project interventions will support fisheries in identifying fishing hotspots throughout the season and decreasing fuel consumption while reducing bycatch.
~Reduced downtime : Predictive maintenance alerts for vessel and gear health will prevent unexpected breakdowns.
~Fleet Optimization : Enhanced coordination among vessels for better catch distribution and resource use.

2. Sustainability & Environmental Impact Reduction

~Lower Carbon Footprint : Optimized routes and fuel     management to reduce emissions.
~Bycatch Reduction: AI-driven simulations to help     avoid sensitive species and improve selective fishing practices.
~Ecosystem Monitoring: Tracking environmental conditions to promote sustainable harvesting.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Traceability

~Automated Reporting: Streamlining compliance with     fishing quotas, marine protected areas, and sustainability certifications.
~Enhanced Traceability: Digital records of catch origin,  processing, and distribution improve transparency and market trust.
~Climate Policy Scenario Modeling : Simulating the impact of regulatory interventions on emissions and operational outcomes.

4. Enhanced Data-Driven Decision Making

~Real-Time Analytics: by Integrating satellite, sensor, and market data to support informed operational decisions.
~Climate Adaptation: Ability to predict how climate changes impact fisheries, aiding long-term strategic planning.

5. Economic Benefits

~Cost SavingsReduction in fuel, maintenance, and     operational costs through predictive insights.
~Market Competitiveness: Improved supply chain efficiency and which could ensure premium pricing for sustainable products.

When will the Fishtwin platform be widely available in a product?

The Fishtwin project is in the early stages, and actively engaging partners across the entire value chain to enhance our impact. Our vision is to deliver Fishtwin through a phased, progressive approach over a four-year period.

The initial focus will be on the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events, their socio-economic consequences, and potential adaptation, optimization, and mitigation strategies in fisheries management.
